TOURISM Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco assured Philippine tourism stakeholders that the Marcos administration has programs and initiatives to help the domestic industry get back on track with the easing of pandemic restrictions and the opening of borders of other countries.
During the Philippine Travel Agencies Association event and the simultaneous launching of various activities for 2023 on Friday, Frasco said that that President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. is committed to supporting the recovery of Philippine tourism.
"We welcome the recovery of the sector with optimism and hope as President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has declared his all-out support for the tourism industry, recognizing it is an important economic pillar for our economic recovery," she said.
In order to actualize the administration's vision for the industry, Frasco also discussed the Department of Tourism's (DoT) various plans that fall under seven main objectives in improving tourism.Get the latest news
"We must recognize that it is important to build a seamless and convenient way for our tourists to arrive at their destination, that means improvements in roads, several buildings and data structures," the official said.
The Tourism secretary stressed the importance of equal opportunity for tourism promotion and development for all provinces, the need for providing basic necessities for traveling tourists, such as clean restrooms and rest spots, and the establishment of a national call center for tourism help in order to improve overall experience and make tourists become repeat visitors to the country.
Frasco also bared an interesting initiative on encouraging overseas Filipinos to convince their connections and close contacts to visit the Philippines.
The DoT also plans to launch the tourism job fair with the finalization of the memorandum of understanding with the Department of Labor and Employment. Both departments will hold monthly national job fairs in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao beginning Sept. 22, 2022 until they are able to address the workforce shortages of the accommodation sector in the Philippines and successfully fill the vacancies in the industry generated by the reopening of tourism in the country.
